GDDG Leads in Second Rounds of Local By-Elections
Along with runoff races on October 30, the second rounds of local by-elections for gamgebeli (head of municipality) and mayoral offices were held in four localities, where GDDG candidates are winning convincingly, according to the preliminary results.
With all the votes counted, preliminary results of the second rounds of local by-elections show GDDG’s mayoral candidate in Akhaltsikhe, Vladimer Zedgenidze leading the race over his competitor, UNM’s Erekle Ereklishvili with 63.22% to 36.78% of votes.
In the race for gamgebeli of Zugdidi municipality in Samegrelo region, UNM’s Besik Gabunia had a slight lead over GDDG’s Lasha Gogia – 45.59% to 43.07% – in the first round, but was defeated in the second round, where the latter garnered 69.63% of votes.
According to the preliminary results, GDDG’s Davit Sherazadishvili (95.26%) will become Bolnisi gamgebeli in Kvemo Kartli region; another candidate from the ruling party, Nikoloz Topuridze is wining gamgebeli race in Kharagauli in Imereti region (76.2%). The both candidates were leading in the first rounds, but as none of them received more than half of the votes in the first round, the race went into the second round.
GDDG candidates won outright victories in the first rounds in the race for gamgebeli of Chiatura and Tsalenjikha municipalities.
Those elected in these by-elections will remain in office before the local elections in October, 2017.
