Abkhazian Government in Exile Criticizes UN Secretary General’s Position

(Tbilisi, January 24, Civil Georgia) – Tbilisi-based Chairmen of Supreme Council of Abkhazia Tamaz Nadareishvili stated on January 24 that he would do his best to prevent Georgian army’s withdrawal from Kodori gorge.

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan says in his report to the Security Council on the situation in Abkhazia that the tensions remain high in the conflict zone with the continuing presence of Georgian troops in the upper Kodori gorge

“Either the secretary-general cannot fully understand our problems or he backs Abkhazian separatists,” Tamaz Nadareishvili stated.

Georgian Special Affairs Minister Malkhaz Kakabadze singed a protocol with the Abkhazian side on January 17 to pull out units of Georgian Defense Ministry from Kodori – the only territory in breakaway region of Abkhazia controlled by the Georgian government.
