Deadline is Set for Making Decision on Peacekeepers’ Mandate
(Tbilisi, February 1, Civil Georgia) – Georgia will take a decision on Russian peacekeeping troops’ mandate before February 15, Kokha Sikharulidze, Foreign Affairs Ministry’s spokesman stated on February 1.
Georgia will prolong the mandate only in case the Russian peacekeepers will relocate deeper in the territory of breakaway region of Abkhazia at Ghalidzga River.
“This will ensure security of Georgian population living in the Gali district of Abkhazia,” Sikharulidze stated.
If the mandate is not changed Georgia will demand Russian peacekeepers withdrawal from the conflict zone, the spokesman announced.
