Russian Military Officials Discussed Peacekeepers’ Issue in Tbilisi
(Tbilisi, February 12, Civil Georgia) – Commander of the Russian ground forces Gen-Let Valeri Ivnevich and acting commander of the CIS peacekeeping forces in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone Major-General Aleksandr Efteev met Georgian Defense Minister Davit Tevzadze on February 12.
Issue of the Russian peacekeepers’ deployed in the conflict zone under the auspices of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was discussed during the meeting.
Issue of withdrawal of Georgian armed forces from Kodori gorge, breakaway Abkhazia was also discussed.
Georgian side demands security guarantees from the Abkhazian side in order to withdraw its military units from Kodori, the only territory in Abkhazia controlled by the Georgian government.
