Russian Foreign Minister Talks about Bin-Laden’s Possible Presence in Pankisi

(Tbilisi, February 16, Civil Georgia) – Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Igor Ivanov stated at the news briefing in Paris after the meeting with his French counterpart on February 15 that Osama Bin-Laden may be in Pankisi gorge, northeastern Georgia.

Ivanov stated that reports appeared in media about Bin-Laden’s possible presence in criminal-ridden Pankisi. “Who said that this is not true?” Russian Foreign Minister said.

Georgian State Security Minister Valeri Khaburdzania said, commenting Ivanov’s statement that it was made in the “joke like manner.”

Charge d’Affaires of the United States in Georgia Philip Remler stated in the interview to the Georgian media that terrorists fled from Afghanistan are harboring in Pankisi gorge.
