Zhvania’s Supporter Vice-Speaker Refuses to Resign
(Tbilisi, May 17, Civil Georgia) – Eldar Shengelaia, Parliamentary Vice-Speaker made a speech at the special session today and stated that “I will not resign and will not make pleasure with my resignation to the new parliamentary majority.”
Parliament discusses today redistribution of the Parliamentary posts on May 17. Eldar Shengelaia, who is the former Parliamentary Chairman Zurab Zhvania’s supporter, is the only Vice-Speaker from 5, which had to resign as the MPs agreed that all the 4 Vice-Speakers would keep their posts.
Opponents of Zurab Zhvania’s team protested against Shengelaia’s statement and said that another Vice-Speaker Gigi Tsereteli who is also thought to be Zhvania’s supporter will remain on the posts so two representative from the same team cannot hold the posts.
It is anticipated that after the Parliament will dismiss Shengelaia with voting, member of the pro-Presidential faction Tanadgoma Elguja Medzmariashvili will be elected on the posts of the Vice-Speaker.
