MPs Hinder Government’s Hidden Goal to Sequester Budget

(Tbilisi, December 17, 2002. Civil Georgia) – Today the Georgian Parliament rejected the bill on amendments in the budget of 2002, proposed by the government.

MPs claim that the amendments aimed at hidden sequester of the budget. The shortfall of the 2002 budget consists 120 million Lari (approximately USD 56 million).

The Budgetary Office of the Parliament reports that the sequestering of the 2002 budget will be inevitable.

It is anticipated that in case of the sequestering of the budget Parliament would push the issue of responsibility of the executive government. Thus the Finance Ministry tries to avoid budget sequester.
