May 22 Protest Rally
May 22 was the second day of street protests, launched by the People’s Assembly to force President Saakashvili resign. Two separate clashes, one of which involved police firing rubber bullets and tear gas, as well as the opposition Georgian Party’s decision to join the rally were two major developments on May 22. The latter one, accompanied by announcement of the Georgian Party’s co-founder, exiled ex-defense minister Irakli Okruashvili that he would arrive in Georgia on May 25, which should turn into āfinal day for the Saakashvili’s regimeā to some extent gave a new momentum to the ongoing rally; but May 22 saw far few turnout of participants than the first day.
