The Ruling Party Strictly Demands that an Extraordinary Session of the Parliament be held on July 28

The parliamentary majority declared at the parliamentary majority session held beyond the closed doors today that an extraordinary session of the Parliament should be held on July 28.

Aslan Abashidze, head of the Supreme Council of Autonomous Republic of Adjara, has asked the President of Georgia to delay the special session (amendments on local self-governance elections are supposed to be debated at the session). Aslan Abashidze is having an official visit to China presently and will not be in Georgia by July 28th. He has expressed his will to participate in the consultations regarding local self-governance elections.

According to Edvard Surmanidze, General Secretary of “the Citizens’ Union” (the ruling party), an extraordinary session of the Parliament should be held on July 28 no matter where Aslan Abashidze is by that time. He said he would talk to the President concerning the issue himself.
