The issue of selection of new members for the new Central Election Commission nominated by NGOs will be on the floor for discussion for the next week in the Parliament. Parliamentary Chairman Zurab Zhvania plans to meet NGO representatives before the discussion, because some of the representatives of NGOs refused to be Central Election Commission members.
For lack of a quorum, Parliament on 28 September failed to select the members of the Central Election Commission. Those members must be endorsed by no less than two-third of the 235 MPs. Parliamentary opposition does not support the idea of selection Central Election Commission members from the representatives of NGOs.
