President of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Parliamentary Assembly Adrian Severin met representatives of parliamentary factions today.
Georgian MPs emphasized the ineffectiveness of the Russian peacekeeping troops deployed in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone under the auspices of the CIS.
Adrian Severin discussed the issue during the meeting with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Shota Dogonadze as well. Deputy Minister stated about the necessity of replacement of the Russian peacekeepers with the international peacekeeping forces.
According to the resolution passed by the Georgian Parliament on October 12, further presence of the Russian peacekeepers in Abkhazia is regarded as inappropriate. President Shevardnadze supported the resolution.
