Radiation Source not Examined Because of Heavy Weather

(Tbilisi. January 7. Civil Georgia) – Three experts from International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) did not start examining radiation source near village of Lia, Tsalenjikha region, western Georgia, because of heavy weather. IAEA experts arrived in Georgia on January 5.

Radiation source, which is believed to be Strontium 90, was found several weeks ago. Three local villagers were exposed to radioactive source.

Protection of Environment and Natural Resources Minister Nino Chkhobadze visited village of Lia on January 6 and met the local population, which is in panic because of radiation source.

Minister stated that the source does not threat people living in the adjacent areas.
