(Tbilisi, January 16, Civil Georgia) – On January 16 Georgian law enforcers launch operative-investigative actions to free the hostages, remove firearms and eliminate drug trafficking in the gorge.
“This is the second stage of operations in Pankisi gorge,” Internal Affairs Minister Koba Narchemashvili stated on January 15 at the news conference in Akhmeta region.
Relocation of internal troops’ checkpoints from the entry to Pankisi gorge deeper on its territory on January 15 was the first stage of the operation to crackdown criminals in Pankisi gorge.
Despite law enforcers’ activity local population of Akhmeta region, where Pankisi gorge is located, continue protesting demanding from the law enforcement agencies complete crackdown of criminals.
Eight villages of Akhmeta region are protesting at the moment.
