(Tbilisi, January 17, Civil Georgia) – Census of Georgian population will be held on January 17-29. This is the first census after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Its final results will be published in fall.
The last census was held in 1989. According to the UN recommendation, the next one was to be held in 1999 but it was delayed till now because of the lack of finances.
5.4 million people were registered at the last census in Georgia. The census office presumes that about 4.7 million people will be recorded this time.
