(Tbilisi, January 30, Civil Georgia) – Team of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) led by David Owen, Chief of the Southern Division of the Fund’s European II Department arrives in Tbilisi on January 30.
IMF mission is to discuss with the Georgian authorities the draft of the 2002 budget and evaluate fulfillment of 2001 budget.
Second reading of the draft budget of 2002 is to be held on January 30 in the Parliament.
Parliamentarians voted for draft in a first reading in the beginning of January, on a condition to foresee increase budget spending in a number of areas, including defense and salaries for the teachers. Georgian government is under IMF pressure not to increase spending.
