(Tbilisi, February 3, Civil Georgia) – Dissident Christian Orthodox group led by excommunicated priest Basil Mkalavishvili burned approximately 4 tons of religious literature owned by the Jehovah’s Witness on February 3.
The group attacked one of the depots in Georgian capital Tbilisi, where the books of the Jehovah’s Witness were held.
This is not the first case of burning religious literature by the Mkalavishvili’s group. The group members argue that non-Orthodox religious literature is “a heresy” not to be permitted in the Orthodox Christian country.
The group of Basil Mkalavishvili is known for violent attacks on non-orthodox Christian groups, especially Jehovah’s Witnesses.
