(Tbilisi, February 28, Civil Georgia) – On February 27, district court of Tbilisi, Georgian capital decided to release Georgian ex-diplomat to the United States Giorgi Makharadze, imprisoned for the drunken-driving death of a 16-year-old girl in the United States.
Makharadze was the second in command of the Georgian Embassy in the United States at the time of the January 1997 accident. He was sentenced to from 7 to 21 years in prison and was transferred to Georgia in 2000 to serve out the rest of his term.
Georgian 163 Parliamentarians appealed the court early in February to release Giorgi Makharadze.
