(Tbilisi, March 28, Civil Georgia) – Georgian Foreign Minister Irakli Menagarishvili denied that Russian Interior Military General Genadi Shpigun abducted in 1999 was killed in Pankisi gorge.
Moscow-based former Georgian Defense Minister Tengiz Kitovani told the Russian media sources that Shpigun was detained in Pankisi gorge, where he was killed and then taken to Chechnya.
Georgian officials were aware of the fact but did nothing to prevent murder of Russian general, Kitovani said.
Shpigun, who was abducted from Groznyy [capital of Chechnya] airport in March 1999, was found dead year later in Chechnya.
