Elections Postponed in Kodori Gorge

(Tbilisi, June 2, Civil Georgia) – Local self-governance elections are not held in Kodori gorge, the only territory in breakaway Abkhazia controlled by the Georgian government.

Giorgi Zesashvili, Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission told the reporters today that the reason of the postponement is the heavy weather conditions in this mountainous region.

The only way to get in Kodori at the moment is by the helicopter, as it is the Georgian enclave in breakaway Abkhazia. Because of the heavy weather constituencies in the gorge were not supplied with the ballots.

Central Election Commission has not taken decision when the locals will be held in this troubled gorge.
