(Tbilisi, June 7, Civil Georgia) – Kvemo Kartli regional branch of the Citizens’ Union of Georgia party collapses as the members of the branch announced today that they quit from the party membership.
At the news conference on June 7 Merab Tkeshelashvili, mayoral candidate of Rustavi, town in Kvemo Kartli region, and his followers stated that they couldn’t be in the same party with Levan Mamaladze, pro-Presidential governor of Kvemo Kartli.
Merab Tkeshelashvili, who is the supporter of former Parliamentary Chairman Zurab Zhvania, that Levan Mamaladze is responsible for cancellation of the June 2 local elections in Rustavi, when the voting ballots were hijacked.
MP Gela Kvaratskhelia, supporter of the Kvemo Kartli governor, denied accusations at the Parliamentary session today.
By-election in Rustavi is scheduled for June 9.
After the several cases in the courts pro-Presidential group of the CUG could take over the party.
