(Tbilisi, June 10, Civil Georgia) – One Russian peacekeeper died and another one wounded after the explosion of the land mine in Kodori gorge, breakaway Abkhazia on June 8.
Russian media sources report that the mine exploded while the Russian peacekeepers, deployed in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone, were monitoring the troubled Kodori gorge. Upper part of the gorge is the only part of breakaway province controlled by the Georgian government.
Georgian Defense Ministry reports that the explosion occurred in the part of Kodori, which is out of Georgian control.
94 Russian peacekeepers died in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone, since 1994.
