(Tbilisi, June 14, Civil Georgia) – Georgia is ready to discuss all the problems that exists concerning the GUUAM with Uzbekistan, which announced about pulling out from the alliance, Georgian Foreign Ministry’s Spokesman Kakha Sikharulidze stated at the news briefing today.
Five former Soviet republics – Georgia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Moldova (GUUAM) set up in 1997 a political, economic and strategic alliance designed to strengthen the independence and sovereignty of its members.
The Uzbek Foreign Ministry said on June 13, that the Tashkent was pulling out because it saw no progress on the tasks set by the organization.
In one of his traditional Monday radiobroadcasts Georgian President Shevardnadze did not rule out possibility of joining other countries to the alliance.
Ukrainian President stated on June 14, that he was not surprised with the decision of Uzbekistan. “We did not urged any of the country to become a member of the alliance or to leave it,” President Kuchma said at the news briefing today.
