(Tbilisi, June 17, Civil Georgia) – According to preliminary results of local elections held in Adjara Autonomous Republic on June 16, Giorgi Abashidze, son of Aslan Abashidze, head of the autonomous republic, was elected on the post of the Mayor of Batumi, capital of Adjara.
According to the preliminary information, “Revival-XXI” (led by Aslan Abashidze) was the only party to overcome 4% voting barrier needed to obtain seats in the local Sakrebulo (city council).
Society for Fair Elections Democracy and International National Democratic Institute (NDI), which are the most experienced watchdog NGOs, were not allowed to observe in the Autonomous Republic.
