(Tbilisi, July 8, Civil Georgia) – Chairman of the Russian Duma Council on CIS Affairs Boris Pastukhov arrives in Tbilisi on July 8 to hold talks on the framework agreement on friendship and cooperation between Georgia and Russia.
Meeting with Georgian Foreign Affairs Minister Irakli Menagharishvili is scheduled for today. Menagharishvili leads the Georgian commission on the negotiations.
The most problematic issue of the negotiations is the military aspects of the agreement. Russia requires at least 10 years to pull out its military bases from Akhalkalaki, southern Georgia and Batumi, Adjarian Autonomous Republic. While the Georgian side demands three years for the bases’ withdrawal.
