(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, July 19, 2002) – GUUAM Presidential summit will be held in Yalta, Ukraine on July 19-20. Presidents of Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova will participate in the summit. President of Uzbekistan does not participate in the summit.
In June Uzbekistani announced about its withdrawal from the organization. Georgian and Ukrainian Presidents claim that despite Uzbekistan’s statement GUUAM will continue activity.
GUUAM was set up in 1997 as a political, economic and strategic alliance designed to strengthen the independence and sovereignty of its members. Uzbekistan joined the group later, in 1999.
