(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, July 31, 2002) – At the extended government’s meeting today General Prosecutor of Georgia Nugzar Gabrichidze said “too mach freedom of speech caused increase of crime in Georgia.”
The increased cases of the crimes and violence against foreigners and religious minorities cause harsh criticism of the international community towards the Georgian government.
President Shevardnadze in his recent radiobroadcast admitted that the government is unable to prevent acts of valances against the religious minorities.
General Prosecutor reported to the extended government’s meeting concerning the activity of the Prosecutor’s Office in the fist half of 2002.
