MP Beaten at Meeting of Abkhazian Government

(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, August 1, 2002) – Supporters of Tamaz Nadareishvili, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Abkhazia in exile, beat MP Jemal Gamakharia at the Council’s meeting today.

Tbilisi-based Abkhazian government in exile supports the Georgian guerrilla movement in breakaway Abkhazia and intends to activate this movement. Supporter of the Abkhazian government in exile are against of activity of President’s personal envoy for the conflict settlement Aslan Abashidze, leader of the Adjarian Autonomous Republic.

MP Jemal Gamakharia condemned guerrilla movement at the meeting today and called the displaced persons from Abkhazia to support Aslan Abashidze that caused irritation of supporters they beat the MP.

Influential governor of Imereti region Temur Shashiashvili also participated in the meeting of the Abkhazian government in exile. He promised all kind of assistance to the guerrilla movement.
