(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, August 5, 2002) – In his traditional Monday radiobroadcast on August 5, President Shevardnadze expressed satisfaction with the economic growth in the country, which was noticed in the first half of 2002.
Eduard Shevardnadze said that the GDP growth rate consisted 4,2% in this period and further increase of GDP is anticipated by the end of 2002. According to the President the growth is observed in industry and agriculture as well.
At the government’s extended meeting on July 31 Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze criticized reports of the ministers’ claiming the economic growth and said that the executive branch “is far from reality as the real situation in the country is unfortunately deferent.”
