(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, August 12, 2002) – Georgian Defense Ministry issued statement on August 12, claiming that up to 100 armed fighters are noticed in Kodori gorge.
“This is the Abkhaz fighters’ group, whose movement was not agreed with the Georgian side. At the moment talks are being held with the Abkhaz side to withdraw its units from the Georgina controlled territory,” Defense Ministry’s statement says.
Earlier today Georgian President’s Representative in Kodori Gorge Emzar Kvitsiani told the reporters that the Russian soldiers were among the armed group. Russia denied the report.
