Georgian MFA Sends a Protest Note to Russia

(Tbilisi, August 23, 2002, Civil Georgia) – Irakli Menagharishvili, Foreign Affairs Minister of Georgia, made an official statement concerning the bombardment of Georgian territory today and called the action of Russian aviation a “bloody terror”.

“Aggression is evident against the Georgian sovereignty, which resulted in killing peaceful population. All the responsibility is laid on those officials of Russian Federation who started an anti-Georgian campaign calling it an anti-terrorist one. And also on those who ordered the bombardment and implemented it”, Menagharishvili told the reporters.

The Minister sent a protest note to the Russian Ambassador in Georgia today.

According to the latest information, one person died and 7 were wounded as a result of bombardment occurred near Pankisi gorge early in the morning today.
