(Tbilisi, September 2, 2002, Civil Georgia) – Investigative Commission of the Parliament completed investigation concerning MP Guram Sharadze. Sharadze left mandate of MP feeling insulted after an NGO Liberty Institute member publicly accused him of secretly collaborating with Soviet KGB and intensifying ethnic conflicts in Georgia.
The commission asked for relative documents from the State Security Ministry as well as from its former and present leaderships. According to head of the commission Mikheil Osadze, none of the documents admit that Sharadze used to cooperate with KGB.
According to Osadze, the commission was not ordered to investigate accusation about intensifying ethnic conflicts thus he can say nothing about it.
The commission will make a final conclusion about Sheradze’s rehabilitation soon.
