(Tbilisi, September 4, 2002, Civil Georgia) – Georgian Security Council Secretary Tedo Japaridze told the reporters today that the Georgian border guards detained by the Russians “will be handed over to the Georgian side without any doubt.”
Three Georgian border guards were detained on September 2, when they crossed the Georgian-Russian border. Georgian Border Guard Department claims that its employees crossed the border with mistake and did not intend to enter the Russian territory.
Tedo Japaridze said that the intensive talks are held between the Georgian and Russian side concerning the handing over of the detained Georgian citizens.
Russian media sources report quoting Russian Border Guard Department officials that the Georgian-Russian joint commission starts to work over the incident on September 4.
