Pankisi Operation Moves to End

(Tbilisi, November 15, Civil Georgia) – ?Situation in Pankisi gorge is under control and there are no militants any more,? Koba Narchemashvili, Georgian Interior Minister told the reporters today. He is in the gorge at the moment.

Interior Minister said that the anti-criminal operation launched in late August would be over in two weeks.

He said that the law enforcers would continue to patrol the gorge and chase for the criminals, which remain in Pankisi.

After the release of British citizen Peter Shaw on November 6, one more hostage, Georgian monk Basil Machitadze, still remains in detention by the kidnappers in the gorge.
