(Tbilisi, November 19, Civil Georgia) – Georgian border guards seized Turkish ship in Georgia’s territorial waters in breakaway Abkhazia after four-hour pursuing in the evening the on November 18.
The Georgian Border Guard Department reported today that the Turkish ship tried to escape, even after the warning fire.
The Georgian border guards could seize the ship only after the opening fire to the sheep near Bichvinta in Georgia’s breakaway province of Abkhazia. No casualties reported.
Georgian Border Guard Department reports that the Turkish ship Seqer Baba, 15 men on board, will be fined with 200.000 Lari (approximately USD 92.000) for illegal fishing in the Georgian territorial waters. The owners of the ship can appeal the court within the 10 days.
According to the Georgian Border Guard Department Seqer Baba is seized by the Georgian side for the second time. In February 2000 Georgian border guards captured the ship for illegal fishing.
