(Tbilisi, November 29, 2002, Civil Georgia) Several high-ranking executives of the British Petroleum, including of the company’s Azerbaijan branch and executive director of the pipeline, joined the ongoing consultations on BTC pipeline ecologic safety issues in Tbilisi.
Unofficial sources say that they were dispatched to Tbilisi to make certain pressure on the Georgian government.
Rustavi 2 TV company reports that the Environment Ministry of Georgia is processing answers on 32 questions of the Ministry to BP, regarding ecological safety of the pipeline. Sources say that the Ministry is not satisfied with answers to a number of questions. The Ministry has to issue official permission for construction of the pipeline before November 30.
According to a plan, 20 kilometers long part of the BTC pipeline, which will cross Borjomi valley in southern Georgia, might be too damaging for ecology and famous mineral water springs of the valley.
