(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, December 2, 2002) – At the meeting of the Parliamentary Speakers of Azerbaijan and Ukraine today officials proposed to create a Parliamentary assembly of the GUUAM member states
GUUAM was set up in 1997 as a political, economic and strategic alliance designed to strengthen the independence and sovereignty of its members – Georgia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Moldova,. Uzbekistan joined the group later, in 1999.
The speakers of the Azerbaijan and Ukraine agreed to hold the Parliamentary assembly of the GUUAM member states in spring, 2003.
