The Burjanadze-Democrats Lead the Polls

According to a survey commissioned by independent Rustavi-2 broadcasting company and conducted among 1,300 respondents throughout Georgia by the Tbilisi-based IPM group (Institute for Polling and Marketing), the Burjanadze-Democrats election bloc, led by parliamentary chairperson Nino Burjanadze, is ahead of other political parties.

According to the IPM’s poll results six parties could clear the 7% barrier, needed to enter the parliament, in case the elections were held today.

The Burjanadze-Democrats – 16.9%;
The Labor Party – 14.2%
The Revival Union – 12.9%
The National Movement – 8.1%
Presidential-backed bloc For New Georgia – 7.2%
The New Right – 7.0%

The Unity political association – 5.5%
Industry Will Save Georgia – 3.6%

15.3% of respondents could give no definite answer, while 3.4% refused to answer and 4.3% would not vote for any of the political party.

The IPM’s survey also showed ratings of trust in Georgian politicians. According to these polls Nino Burjanadze enjoys highest confidence among the respondents by 40%. She is followed by Shalva Natelashvili, leader of the Labor Party and Mikheil Saakashvili, chairman of the Tbilisi City Council and leader of the National Movement Party by 26.9% and 21.2% respectively.
