(Tbilisi, January 20, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Georgian President said in his radiobroadcast today that he would raise the issue of reopening railway with Abkhazia and granting of the Russian citizenship to the population living in Abkhazia at the meeting with Russian President Putin by the end of January during the CIS informal summit in Ukraine.
Eduard Shevardnadze said that he would emphasize on importance of implementation of the CIS agreement on isolation of the Abkhaz separatist authorities, which is violated by reopening of the railway connection between Russia and Abkhazia.
Georgian President said that the CIS should be an affective tool for its member states otherwise there will be no need for the organization’s existence.
