(Tbilisi, January 21, 2003. Civil Georgia) – During the meeting with Georgian Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze today members of the Russian Federal Council (upper chamber of the Parliament) proposed to create a joint Russian-Georgian commission on Abkhazian issues.
“The issue [reopening of the railway connection between Russia and breakaway Abkhazia] is very complicated. I do not think that resumption of the railway route was violation of the CIS agreement, as the Georgian side claims,” Vadim Gustov, Chairman of the Russian Federal Council’s Committee on CIS Affairs, which attended the meeting with Nino Burjanadze told Civil Georgia on January 21.
Russian senator said that all these issues need detailed discussions that are why joint commission should be created.
Georgian Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze pays five-day visit in Moscow on January 20-25 to discuss with the Russian leadership recent developments in Abkhazia.
