(Tbilisi, January 23, 2003. Civil Georgia) – At the meeting of the Georgian Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze and the leadership of the Russian Duma Council parties agree to create a joint commission of the Russian and Georgian MPs on bilateral relations.
Vice-Speaker of the Russian Duma Council Liubov Sliska stated after the meeting with Nino Burjanadze that the joint commission should promote softening of the Russo-Georgian tensed relations.
The Russian senators also proposed to create the joint commission at the meeting with Nino Burjanadze on January 21.
Vadim Gustov, Chairman of the Russian Federal Council’s (upper chamber of the Parliament) Committee on CIS Affairs told Civil Georgia on January 21 that the Abkhaz issue is too complicated and one visit of Georgian speaker would not be enough to solve the problems.
“That is why it is important to create a joint Russian-Georgian commission which would work on Abkhazian issue,” Vadim Gustov said.
