Putin Says Russia Ready to Pull Out its Peacekeepers from Abkhazia

(Tbilisi, January 29, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Russian President Putin stated today that in case Georgia demands, Russia will withdraw its peacekeeping troops from Abkhazian conflict zone, adding “it might lead to aggravation of situation” in breakaway region.

“The issue will be decided within the two weeks,” Vladimir Putin said.

Russian and Georgian Presidents discussed the situation in Abkhazia and the issue of the peacekeepers’ mandate during the bilateral meeting in Kiev on January 28, held in the frames of the CIS informal summit.
