MPs Fail to Reach Agreement on Minimal Salary

(Tbilisi. March 15, 2003. Civil Georgia) – The Parliamentary session ended without any decision concerning the draft law on increase of minimal salary to the subsistence level in the midnight on March 15.

After the four-day heated discussions MPs could not find the solution over the issue. Pro-governmental factions questioned the legality of adoption of the draft law elaborated by the opposition United Democrats faction and demanded to declare as invalid the approved proposal.

According to the Constitution, the President has to decide before March 20 as there are no sessions of the Parliament scheduled for the next week. Otherwise President will have to convene a special session so that the Parliament could continue discussion of the issue.
