(Tbilisi. March 24, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Georgian President Shevardnadze said in his Monday radiobroadcast today thanked the Georgian Parliament for ratification of the US-Georgian agreement on defense cooperation.
?The ratification was unfortunately delayed but it is excellent that the Parliament could finally ratify the important document,? Shevardnadze said.
The agreement ratified by the Parliament on March 21 allows the US government to occupy mutually agreed territories and buildings in Georgia for use by the US administration?s civilian and military personnel, transport vehicles, vessels and aircraft.
Eduard Shevardnadze reiterated Georgia?s support towards the US-led war in Iraq. ?The United States has to fulfill its mission, that the UN Security Council failed to implement,? he added.
