Parliamentary Commission Accuses “President’s Family” in Energy Crisis

(Tbilisi. March 27, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Parliamentary special commission chairman MP Irakli Chubinishvili, which studies reasons of energy crisis in Georgia delivered report to the Parliament today regarding the current shortage of electricity.

He said that the entire energy system in the country is corrupted and “the President’s family controls this corrupted system.”

“Thus I am sure that resignation of the Fuel Energy Minister [Davit Mirtskhulava] will not be the way out of the crisis. We have to raise the issue of responsibility of entire executive government,” Chubinishvili said.

He said while the country is blacked out the electricity from Georgia is exported to Azerbaijan. “The export is held illegally without any official permission,” Chubinishvili added.

Davit Mirtskhulava, Energy Minister dismissed accusations at the Parliamentary session today claiming no electricity is exported from the country.

Today Parliamentary faction Traditionalists started collection of signatures to launch impeachment procedure of the Energy Minister.
