Abkhaz de facto President Accepts Cabinet’s Resignation

(Tbilisi. April 9, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Valeri Arshba, Vice-President of breakaway Abkhazia told Civil Georgia today that the President Vladislav Ardzinba accepted Prime-Minister Genadi Gagulia’s appeal for resignation.

“The entire cabinet has resigned, new Prime-Minister will be appointed tomorrow,” Valeri Arshba told Civil Georgia.

The government’s decision comes after the opposition political parties demanded the cabinet’s resignation because of the economy crisis in Abkhazia.

The Abkhaz de facto Prime-Minister’s decision coincided with the jailbreak of nine prisoners from the Sokhumi jail, including the ones sentenced to death.

A high-profile jailbreak is understood to have tipped-off Gagulia resignation against the background of general tension.
