(Tbilisi. May 6, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Prosecutor-General of Georgia Nugzar Gabrichidze said that hunger strike in the Georgian prisons is guided by certain forces. However, he underlined that not a single prisoner will be released before the term.
He did not rule out that the hunger strike is guided by the criminal bosses, currently in detention.
The mass protest action of the prisoners is taking place in 11 penitentiary facilities out of total 15. The protesters demand creation of an independent commission, which would reconsider their cases.
Gabrichidze informed that a commission was set up to investigate the case.
