(Tbilisi, May 12, 2003. Civil Georgia) – President Shevardnadze expressed dissatisfaction with recent activities of the Parliament and called criticism of the Chairperson Nino Burjanadze towards the First Channel of the state television groundless. Burjanadze blamed the TV channel for prejudiced reports on the events in the Parliament and her visits to the foreign countries.
“Perhaps the First Channel does not deliver the information in all details or unprejudiced, but the Parliament’s sessions are being broadcasted live and the citizens can observe all events there from the very first hands” – Shevardnadze said in his Monday Radio Interview, commenting the recent events in the supreme legislative body.
He said that the Parliament should work more effectively and the MPs should show more respect to the Parliament. The President also said that incidents of physical insult of the MPs should be prevented by all means. President believes that the last clash in the Parliament, when the Vice Speaker Vakhtang Rcheulishvili was injured, was planned preliminarily.
