Georgia Calls for Strategic Triangle with Azerbaijan and Ukraine

(Tbilisi, May 16, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Secretary of the Georgian National Security Council Tedo Japaridze told the reporters on May 15 that the creation of “the strategic triangle between Georgia, Azerbaijan and Ukraine would be the impulse for formation effective security system in the region.”

He said that it also would trigger closer ties between the oil-rich (Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan) and oil-transit (Georgia, Ukraine) countries in the region.

Tedo Japaridze said that the strategic triangle would also make real transportation of the Azerbaijani and Kazakh oil to Europe, via Georgia, Ukraine and Poland.

“This triangle would lead to creation of new geopolitically and strategically important corridor,” Georgian Secretary of the National Security Council said.
