(Tbilisi, May 19, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Presidents Shevardnadze called upon every politicians, who makes statements against projects of the oil and gas pipelines through Georgia, to learn in details what these projects could bring to the country’s economy.
“I would like to tell everyone who distributes information against these projects that Georgia will only gain form implementing them and there already are many positive trends” – Shevardnadze said in the Monday Radio Interview on May 19.
As he said, Poti and Batumi ports already received up to 4 million Laris in the framework of these projects in form of pipes and other equipment. Other 800 000 Laris were allocated in the local budgets as well.
President also said that the projects do not pose any threat to the environment. He hopes that in the nearest future Georgia will start using the natural gas, supplied from Azerbaijan, and thus acquire firm guarantees for energetic security.
