Parliament Rejected the Prosecutor-General’s Request

(Tbilisi, May 21, 2003. Civil Georgia) – The Parliament disapproved the request of the Prosecutor-General’s Office to execute criminal justice measures against MP David Bezhuashvili. The request was opposed by 59 MPs.

The Prosecutor-General’s Office charges Bezhuashvili for crimes, committed while being general director of the Sakgaz company in 1998, in particular for improper spending of funds and unilateral increasing of gas tariff. The Prosecutor-General presented the documents to the Parliament personally.

David Bezhuashvili dismissed all claims, calling them a provocation. “This is a provocation of certain concerned forces. I am ready to cooperate with the Prosecutor-general and the investigation team to prove my innocence. If I’ll be found guilty for appropriating even 10 Laris, I will bare full responsibility for that” – Bezhuashvili said.

Bezhuashvili thanked the Parliament for support and promised to cooperate with the Prosecutor-General in the investigation.
